While other candidates were busy removing their election corflutes from roadsides, Mary was busy putting hers back up again.

“After the election I always think it’s important that you thank those who have supported you, so for a couple of days I put my signs back out with a ‘thank you’ note attached,” Mary said.

“As is usual during the campaign, I don’t leave the signs in the same locations; they are put out in the morning and then brought back in the evening and repositioned the next day.

“This is to make sure as many people as possible are thanked.

“While we drove around this morning, to check there were no problems with my ‘thank you’ corflutes, I noticed that quite a few candidates still have their signs out on the side of major roads, and I don’t think this is for the same reason mine went out, rather I think candidates, or their volunteers, have just neglected to remove them.

“We are fortunate to live in a peaceful democracy, where we have the freedom of speech and the ability to outwardly campaign in this way. This has been a tough campaign. I can hazard a guess there are a few tired and perhaps dispirited volunteers and candidates out there.

“However, I would encourage everyone to get out there and make sure all their corflutes are removed as soon as possible. We will be bringing mine in this evening.

“Once again may I thank all those who supported me during the campaign and on the day. I appreciate the community’s vote of confidence. See you at a Mobile Office sometime soon,” Mary concluded.
