Mary attended all of the team’s home games and was overjoyed when she learnt the team had made the Grand Final.

“Watching sport is such an adrenalin pumping activity. I was on the edge of my seat when I watched the women play,” Mary said.

“Being active and playing sport is so important. We are used to seeing men on the sporting field, setting the example of being fit and healthy, so it’s good to see a premier women’s team setting the example in Canberra.”

Captain Ellie Brush was named the team’s Player of the Year and could often be seen signing autographs for boys and girls with the rest of her team after games, demonstrating the team’s appreciation of the Canberra community’s support.

“It is pleasing to see how much the media have responded to the first women's league team in the ACT, not only being formed but doing so well. The W-League is definitely off to a good start in Canberra” Mary said.
