Mary announced the winners of the International Tenants Day –Tenant Art Competition and Exhibition Launch, and this year’s People’s Choice Award, at the Awards Night Ceremony held at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre in Civic.
“Congratulations go to Madeleine Dornan for taking out the premier award for her insightful artwork, Homeward Bound, and also to the People’s Choice Award winner, Mr. Carlsford, for his artwork Hans at Home” Mary said.
Other winners include 2nd place winner, Ms Belinda McDowell with her Mother Earth, Creator, Rainbow, Serpent artwork and 3rd place winner Ms Novie Creech with her artwork, Mining.
‘Rent or Own – it’s still my home’ was the theme of this year’s art competition which showcased a variety of artistic interpretations of what home represents to those who entered the competition; interpretation ranged from koalas to the canals in Venice!
The competition attracted 49 entries, including paintings, drawings, photography, dioramas, mosaic and ceramics.
“This year’s art exhibition displayed once again the wonderful variety of artwork we have come to expect from the many talented artists living in rental accommodation in Canberra,” Ms Porter stated. “International Tenants Day this year is all about celebrating the community contribution of Canberrans who rent publicly and privately,” Mary concluded.
