After the Friends of the Hawker Village meeting last month, Mary made representations to the Minister for Economic Development, Mr Andrew Barr MLA, as she thought it was important that consultation regarding the draft master plan be put on hold for the time being given, the emotionally charged situation.

I know the delay is disappointing for those who strongly supported the draft master plan; however, due to the considerable misinformation being bandied about and no clear opinion emerging regarding the development, it will not benefit the community if the consultations continue in this current environment.” Mary said

“Having lived in Hawker for more than 20 years, I have both a personal as well as professional interest in the future of the shopping centre.

“Most people in my electorate know that I have worked hard to ensure a thorough consultation process in relation to the Hawker shopping precinct draft master plan and attended all of the public consultation meetings.

“Results of the surveys show no clear opinion as to what should happen, and this is not a healthy climate in which to continue the consultation.

“I am pleased that so many people showed an interest in this development and I like to thank all those who worked so hard on the draft plan. Be assured I will continue to support your efforts for a positive outcome in the future,” Mary concluded.
