Recently Mary visited St Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Charnwood to view plans for the new capital works.

These capital works come at an important time for this school, which opened in 1975, as the West Belconnen area is undergoing some major expansion with new suburbs being added to the Molonglo corridor and West Macgregor.

The refurbishments and upgrades, which will also include the school-hall, will ensure that St
Thomas Aquinas students have a contemporary learning environment.

The school received a $2.125 million funding under the Federal Government’s Building the
Education Revolution (BER) initiative. This funding also contains a Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) element which will fund the preschool, upgrade to the school’s library, the
Information Communication Technology (ICT), including smart and interactive white boards, and refurbishments to classrooms.

“We need to ensure that all children in ACT Primary Schools have the opportunity to reach their full potential, the new facility as a win for the environment as well as a win for the community.” Mary said.
