Mary recently officially launched the Cancer Council Relay Motorcycle Ride to raise funds and increase awareness of cancer.

As is well known, cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia, with more than 43,000 people estimated to have died from the disease in 2010.

“An estimated 114,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed in Australia last year, with one in two Australians expected to be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85,” Mary said.

The Cancer Council Relay Motorcycle Ride 2012 is in its fourth year and riders hope to raise $100,000 this year.

“The riders on this leg of the tour started in Newcastle on the 12th of March with the tour reaching its conclusion in Brisbane in June this year with over 500 riders participating,” Ms Porter stated.

This year the ride will, for the first time, go all the way around mainland Australia and will include Tasmania.
