Recently Mary attended the official opening of the Belconnen Community Men's Shed in Page.

The Shed is auspiced by the Mosaic Baptist Church in Belconnen, which donated the land beside their Community Centre in Page, on which the Shed is built.

In February 2011, a committee was formed to create a place where Men could meet and share their stories and skills with one another. Thanks to donations from industry, the Mosaic Baptist Church and members of the community, this project has finally come to completion.

“As you know, I’m a great supporter of community initiatives, and I’m glad to see this Shed has finally been completed and open for business,” Mary said.

“You will recall that in July last year I visited the Shed to see the progress being made, and to learn how the Men’s Shed Movement in Australia was making a difference for men, in particular in my electorate.

"I have really enjoyed following their journey, both on a personal level and as the local member,” she added. "This group of Canberrans demonstrate that with a spirit of determination one can make a difference, and it is really pleasing to see this opening day as the next step in the shed's journey.

“I congratulate Mr Gordon Cooper- the Shed manager, Mr Mark Quilligan- the Shed secretary, all the volunteers and everyone else who contributed in one way or another to make the Belconnen Community Men’s Shed a success.” Mary concluded.
