On March 9th Mary attended the launch of the 16th Canberra International Music Festival.

“The Canberra International Music Festival has become a highlight of Canberra’s arts calendar,” Mary said, “many of you will know of my commitment to participation and engagement in the arts. I believe the arts offer an avenue for Canberrans to enjoy rich, full lives and festivals such as this are important facets of the local lifestyle,” she added.

Pleasingly recent research by the Australia Council for the Arts reveals yet again that there is a high level of participants in the arts in Canberra.

The Canberra International Music Festival combines international and Australian performers, and a mixture of musical forms, lectures and other engagement activities, at a variety of interesting venues, during the wonderful time of autumn in Canberra!

The Festival will offer us music by Beethoven, Gorecki and Pärt, as well as Australian composers such as Peter Sculthorpe and Elena Kats-Chernin. Venues included the Aspen Island, Llewellyn Hall, the Bus Depot Markets, and a range of embassies.

“The ACT Government is pleased to support Pro Musica for the Canberra International Music Festival through the ACT Arts Fund, which is one of the most direct ways the ACT Government supports our vibrant arts sector, and I congratulate Pro Musica, festival-organisers, and all those who had a hand in putting this program together, for their wonderful achievement,” concluded Mary.
