Mary recently joined approximately 500 motorcyclists for the annual Motorcycle Riders’ Association Blanket Run.

Commencing at Old Parliament House, riders travelled via Woden, returning to the city before gathering in Garema Place.

Each year the blanket run is held in May, just before the onset of winter in the capital which imposes an additional burden on those less well off.

“The run is a symbol of the goodwill that is generated when the community works together. The annual Blanket Run has been providing blankets, warm clothing, non-perishable food and money to Canberrans in need for the past 30 years,” Mary said.

“The outstanding success of the Blanket Run is due to the responsible and caring motorcyclists living in the Canberra community who come together to participate in the mass motorcycle ride and contribute to such a good cause,” Mary stated.

Canberrans responded with their usual kindness, contributing a large amount of goods and approximately $1800 in cash donations.

All donations were presented to the Salvation Army, an organisation well-known in Canberra.

“I would like to thank all those who took part in the Blanket Run as well as those who gave so much in support of those in need,” Mary concluded.
