Recently Mary attended the opening of the Trauma Recovery Centre or Melaleuca Place established in a former gardener’s cottage on the edge of Dickson College. Melaleuca Place is a unique multi-disciplined therapeutic service for children and young people, aged 0-12 years, who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

The services are delivered by a professional support team of clinicians and therapists and provide a safe and healing place for these young children subject to so much suffering.

‘This is a very important initiative by the ACT Government, a much needed service for some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in our community, Mary said.

‘If you know someone who you believe is suffering from abuse or neglect, it is vital to listen and give them support. It is important to know that there is help available and I encourage those who suspect a child is experiencing such trauma to report their concern to Care and Protection Services on 1300 556 728 as soon as possible,’ Mary said.
