Matthew Box has a long history as a volunteer from his secondary school days, such as Emergency Services, Community Legal Services and Scouts. He is also a sworn member of the Australian Federal Police. This year he was awarded the NRMA, Volunteer of the Year Award for 2009 by Volunteering ACT.

Matthew has made an outstanding contribution to the Marymead Kids Companion Program despite working irregular hours in a demanding, full-time job. His contribution as a child mentor; volunteer with the boys’ group; family support advisor; advocate; and program ambassador have had a profound effect on children affected by a disability and their families.

Matthew is an excellent example of just how effective volunteers can be and the positive influence they can have on the wider community. Matthew brings a ‘can-do’ attitude to his volunteering. Remarkably, he has achieved his success with the Marymead Kids Companion Program which still actively supporting St Johns Ambulance. Congratulation Matthew!
