Greening Australia relies on the work of their volunteers as well as community support to hold a wide range of successful events. Recent achievements include the propagation of 125,000 seedlings and the establishment of 30,000 native plants in and around Canberra. These projects would not be possible without the help of nearly 3,000 volunteers.

There are many tasks to get involved in, some less strenuous than others, such as the one Mary was involved with lately, thinning seedlings.

“I enjoyed the peaceful environment amongst the seed beds, in the cool of the early evening, a change from the more demanding daytime planting,” Mary commented.

“Volunteering for Greening Australia is a great way for people to stay active and maintain the health of our environment. As the nation’s capital we like to pride ourselves on being environmentally conscious, however there is still more work to be done,” Mary said.

“I would like to encourage people to get involved in these initiatives and play a vital part keeping the nation’s capital green,” Mary concluded.
