Mary Porter has launched a new publication to help schools devise ways to plan fundraising activities that support the health and well-being of students.

"For many school communities knowing where to go for healthy ideas for fundraising activities can be very challenging and quite often they resort to the easy options likes sweets and doughnuts," Mary commented.

Many schools turn to food when they are raising funds for projects, but due to a lack of alternatives they tend to rely on unhealthy products.

"Thanks to the Heart Foundation ACT and the ACT Government, the Healthy Fundraising Ideas for ACT School Communities book has been created to address this issue.

"The booklet is designed to provide a quick reference for schools and parent groups to select a wide variety of healthy fundraising ideas and also provides details for local and interstate businesses that provide products and services for fund raising", Mary continued.

In addition to the sale of products, the book also provides guidance for fun, physically active fundraisers and school fetes. It also includes a number of healthy recipes to cater for large groups.

"I'm sure the book will be an asset to all school communities in planning fundraising activities and support messages for health and well-bein g," Mary added.
