In the early 1990's Mary Porter recognised there was a great need for those working in human services to have their skills recognised. Unfortunately there were few organisations that were able to provide the training required.

As she had done many time times before, Mary formed a steering committee to establish an organisation to fill the need she believe existed.

That organisation became the registered training company TRAHCS specialising in children, aged, health and community services and Mary was the inaugural chair, a position she held for over a decade until her election to the Assembly in 2004. She is now the patron.

Hundreds of people have now graduated, many receiving their first ever formal qualifications.

"I have attended all of the graduations either as chair or patron and I still get a chill down my spine when I see the gradates and how proud they are of their achievements" Mary said.
