Last month Mary opened an expanded and revamped community care centre at the Canberra Christian Life Centre (CCLC) in Charnwood, which coincided with the Anti -Poverty Week in the ACT.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the
Canberra Christian Life Centre for providing these services in the community,” Mary said, “and in doing so, helping more than seven thousand people each year.”

The Canberra Christian Life Centre took over running of the old Charnwood High School in October 2001 and under its care arm – Canberra City Care – has established Charity Computers, Re Runs, HandUp and CAP debt counselling.

Mary has a long association with the Centre, particularly in relation to the establishment of the West Belconnen Health Co-op, whose members’ access bulk-billed medical, allied health and now other community services at their expanded new facility attached to the CCLC.

The new and improved base for the popular Charity Computers, HandUp Food Care Service, Re Runs op shop and CAP debt counselling is located right next to the community-run West
Belconnen Health Co-op with a shared car park on Cartwright Street,
Charnwood, giving clients easy access to all

“Having services such as these in close proximity is a great example of the ongoing growth and progress in Charnwood, which comes about when the community works together to achieve particular outcomes,” Mary concluded.
