Mary was pleased to recently attend the official opening of the Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra’s newest purpose-built arts facility.

This is a landmark addition to Belconnen, designed with and by the community to offer state-of-the-art resources and facilities for artists and the community at large.

“As Patron of the Canberra and Area Theatre Awards and a strong supporter of the arts in all its forms, I am very pleased to see this wonderful centre open.” Mary said “It will showcase the talents of our region’s artists and provide opportunities for everyone in Belconnen to nurture their creativity, as well as being a vibrant meeting place”

The Arts Centre includes a visual arts gallery, large foyer, dance studio, two classrooms, café and surrounding landscaped areas for outdoor festivals, concerts and major events.

Mary met many of her friends from the arts network at the opening, including Anita McIntyre, an accomplished artist and President of Strathnairn Arts Centre. Her art work is a representation of her home country, tracing her family history in the area and that of the traditional Indigenous custodians. Her work can be found on both her website and that of Craft ACT.

“As a keen supporter of the arts, it is my hope that this new facility will see many more community cultural events take place in Belconnen,” Mary concluded
