Last month Ms Mary Porter AM MLA, Member for Ginninderra, addressed the India-Australia Association of Canberra (IAAC) annual event, held at the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre.

The IAAC annual event celebrates the contribution of volunteers in the Association and recognises all achievements by individuals in the India-Australia community.

“It’s great to be here this evening, to celebrate with you all the achievements of members from our city’s Indian community,” Ms Porter said.

“Your contribution to Canberra is well recognised and I, for one, find Canberra a better city for you being part of our community.”

IAAC is a voluntary, incorporated organisation that was formed in 1971, and has since provided community services to the Indian community in Canberra and the region, as well as promoting the unique Indian heritage and culture to the wider community.

“As you know, Canberra is very fortunate to have so much diversity, and the ACT Government fully celebrates the fabulous multicultural make up of this city, along with the economic, social and cultural benefits it brings,” Ms Porter stated.

I would like to congratulate the India Australia Association of Canberra, its members, and all of those who have played a part in organising this evening’s event,” Ms Porter concluded.
