Late last month, the ACT Legislative Assembly became the first Accredited Asthma Friendly Workplace in the ACT.

The Asthma Friendly Workplace Program is currently being operated by the ACT Branch of the Asthma Foundation and seeks to ensure that all workplaces are safe for people living with asthma.

The program involves ensuring that the workplace is free from hazards for asthma sufferers.

It also involves making sure that other staff in the workplace are trained to recognise and respond in the event of an asthma-related emergency.

“This is a really important program with the potential to improve the lives of the many, many Canberrans who suffer from asthma.

“One in ten working Canberrans lives with asthma. This means that it is crucial for every workplace to take steps to ensure that people with asthma are safe at work.

“I am very proud that the ACT Legislative Assembly is the first workplace in the ACT to became an Accredited Asthma Friendly Workplace.

“I would also encourage other workplaces in the ACT to get involved in the program so that they too can enjoy the benefits,” Mary concluded.
