An initiative supported by the ACT Government and Belconnen Community Service, will see new and emerging actors, playwrights, and designers supported and nurtured in their transition into public theatre. All performances will be at the Belconnen Community Theatre.

The project called WET, is being managed by accomplished young local playwright/actor David Finnigan, known for his work with Bohemian Theatre Company. David will be mentored by Jan Wawrynczak from the Belconnen Community Centre. Jan, an experienced producer/director, will oversee all areas of the productions throughout the 2007 season.

Three Belconnen Colleges that give a high focus to drama and theatre in their curricula , Copland, Hawker and Radford, and all of whom have had very successful productions, are to be included in the season. Graduates from each of the colleges will be included in the season.

The season will have twelve productions and will feature works from the pens of classical traditional writers such as William Shakespeare and Harold Pinter as well as original offerings from young local playwrights.

Speaking at the launch Mary Porter said, " In order to develop to their full potential young people need opportunities, they need exposure, they need experience and above all they need nurturing."

"As patron for the Telstra Countrywide Canberra and Area Theatre Awards (CAT Awards), I know how many talented young people there are in the region and the WET season is a great opportunity for aspiring young performers and technicians to be nurtured in their craft" Mary said.
