Recently Mary officially launched RSPCA Awareness Week in the ACT.

All of us who own or have owned animals understand the special relationship between people and animals and the joy they bring to our lives. RSPCA Awareness Week helps us to celebrate this bond and to also raise awareness of the valuable community services that the RSPCA provides every day.

This year the focus was on wildlife and the natural environment and the role RSPCA plays in caring for wildlife when they are in trouble.

The RSPCA ACT had been serving the Canberra community for over 50 years, caring for Canberra’s surrendered, injured, neglected and abused animals.

“The RSPCA is well-known to thousands of Canberrans through its rescue and shelter of unwanted pets,” Mary said. “It investigates allegations of cruelty, provides input to the development of legislation and plays a critical role in raising community awareness about animal welfare.”

However people may not know of the important work it does rescuing, caring for and releasing wildlife back into their habitat.

Hopefully this year’s RSPCA Awareness Week assisted the Canberra community gain a greater understanding of native animals in the ACT and the way they can help RSPCA care for them.
