Over 5,000 turned out to join with family and friends at the recent Charny Carny, now in its 4th year.

"The carnival is a great example of the whole community getting together and creating a fantastic atmosphere," Mary Porter commented. "No other suburb in Canberra has its very own carnival, and Janette O'Sullivan and Michael Pilbrow and their hard working committee of volunteers are to be congratulated on their achievements."

The Carnival was originally the initiative of the Charnwood Primary and Pre-School and the St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, and now over 20 local community groups and more than 100 volunteers, as well as local businesses, work together to make it all happen.

One of the crowd's favourite events is the Charity Mascot Challenge which this year was won by Ralph the Dog from the Canberra Christian Life Centre, beating Mr Hooker Bear and IMA Safety House. Each won cash prizes for their nominated charity.
