Last month Mary cut the ribbon to officially open the new Hands In Cafe at ACT Basketball Centre in Oatley Court, Belconnen. The Hands In Cafe is a new and exciting venture that is the first of its kind in Canberra as it offers people with disability real work and real jobs.

The Cafe offers nationally recognised training along with real workplace experience to ensure they have the necessary abilities to move towards self employment and self empowerment.

“Education and real employment are significant, but this experience will greatly benefit those involved, as well as set them up for many opportunities in the future, Mary said.

“People with disabilities tend to be given ad hoc labour that is often hidden from society, which is disheartening to see. It is great to see that this cafe will be utilising the immense potential of all those involved, Mary said.

On the day Tara served everybody with a wonderful, healthy morning tea and well brewed coffee to order.

“If you enjoy a cup of coffee as much as I do, I encourage you to go to the Hands In Cafe and support this amazing initiative,” Mary concluded.
