Mary Porter was on hand at Old Parliament House to greet Deborah de Williams as she arrived in Canberra as a part of her run around Australia to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Deborah’s run, which is entitled, Running pink: Deborah Williams’ Record Run Around Australia- Running for a Cure, is an epic year long journey which started in October 2008 in Hobart. Deborah a breast cancer survivor and marathon runner, is running with her dog Maggie and the pair will cover over 20,000 kilometres in 12 months, at an average of 55 kilometres per day.

“Meeting Deborah was a truly inspiring experience. She is such a gifted athlete and wonderful person channelling her energies into a wonderful way,” Mary stated.

As part of her fund-raising run around Australia, Deborah will also be visiting remote communities across the country.

“Living in remote areas is particularly challenging for women fighting breast cancer, and Deborah will share her experiences and show what can be achieved in the face of adversity."

“Cancer affects the lives of so many in our community. I encourage everyone to support causes which aim to raise funds to find a cure. It is also important for women aged over 50 to undergo a mammogram every two years.” Mary said.
