Last month Mary attended the announcement of the winner of the Freefall Experience design ideas competition which was held at the National Arboretum’s Pin Oak Forest.

The competition, sponsored by Engineers Australia, received overwhelming interest from designers with 33 high quality submissions received across the country.

The $30,000 prize was awarded to Queensland firm Bligh Tanner for the winning design featuring a transparent flowing sculpture of stainless steel inspired by the cochlear implant.

‘The ingenuity that went into the award winning design was incredible and completely original, the sensory aspect of the device is also picked up in the way the visitor will be able to experience the installation, Mary said.

‘I was pleased to have been a part of such a wonderful competition that encompassed so many bright minds from all over Australia and I am looking forward to seeing it on site in the forest, also sponsored by Engineers Australia.’ Mary said.
