Recently Mary opened the third National Park Association (NPA)
symposium at the CSIRO Discovery Centre.

The symposium, titled “National Parks- can they take the heat?” was the third in a series which NPA ACT held, as part of NPA ACT’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2010, aimed at promoting public support for sound scientifically-based decisions in park management and resourcing.

“The series of symposiums looked at the challenges facing the national system of protected areas including climate change, fire management, managing recreation impacts and control of feral weeds and pests,” Mary said.

The symposium had a great range of speakers with over 25 experts sharing their knowledge over management and conservation.

“The NPA works closely with the ACT Government to promote National Parks and protection of our fauna and flora, scenery, natural features and cultural heritage,” Mary stated. “This program is partly funded by an ACT Government grant of $10, 530 which illustrates the Government’s commitment to addressing these challenges,” Mary concluded
