Recently Mary launched the Motorcycle Riders Association (MRA) Blanket Run on the steps of old Parliament house, now known as the Museum of Democracy.

It is an annual event to raise money and goods for those doing it tough over winter. For 30 years, the MRA brings together motorcyclists and the general community who donate money, new warm blankets, non-perishable foods and second hand motorcycle jackets to be distributed by The Salvation Army.

Before the ride began, Mary spoke to the large congregation of riders highlighting the dangers of driver distraction and the importance of road safety awareness as well as wishing them safely on their travels.

“If you ride a motorcycle, it is important to speak with your ‘car driving’ friends to raise awareness of road safety for all road users and that the road needs to be shared equally between all types of vehicles, including those of two wheels” Mary said.

As usual, the motorcycle riders were accompanied by the AFP on their ride. Mary thanked the organisers and the riders for their generous donations that they routinely give at this time of the year and again in December on the Toy Run.
