Last month Mary attended the launch of the Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) at the ACT legislative Assembly, the only national campaign aimed at raising awareness and the understanding of youth homelessness in Australia.

The launch included a display of art work, created by young people experiencing homelessness, at a series of art workshops held in March and April.

“Youth homelessness is something that can affect us all, whether as a parent who allows their child’s friend to crash on the couch for a few nights or an extended family member who finds themselves homeless,” Mary said.

“Young people escaping domestic violence or hard economic times are often those most in need,” Mary said.

“It was very moving to view the artworks by young artists who have experienced homelessness in some way or another, it is important for Canberrans to be aware of this significant issue in Australia,” she said.
