Recently Mary was invited to Government House to bid farewell to the former Governor-General, Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO.

Mary was invited to the farewell as a guest of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards (ACT), for which she officiated twice last year on behalf of the ACT Government, and of which the Governor General was the national and ACT patron.

“I have met the former Governor-General on a number of occasions, as have other members of my family,” Mary said. “I can confirm that she is indeed a most gracious woman, and in my experience, remained most humble in that role.”

“As you all know, Dame Quentin was the 25th Governor-General of Australia, and the first female to hold the position. Before then she was the Governor of Queensland from 2003- 2008.”

Her long service to the Australian community has seen her appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1988, and a Companion of the Order of Australia and Dame of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in 2003.

“I take this opportunity to wish the former Governor General- Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO- well in whatever she and her husband- Mr. Michael Bryce AM AE- decide to do now. One thing is sure, their children and grandchildren very much appreciate having them back home!” Mary concluded.
