Anglican priest, Reverend Elizabeth MacKinlay AM, recently received the honour of being named a 2009 Senior Australian of the Year Finalist for the ACT. She will go to the National finals in January 2009.

Reverend Elizabeth MacKinlay works selflessly in her many community roles promoting greater understanding of the issues facing older people.

As Chair of the Ministerial Council on Ageing, she has introduced a seniors’ employment campaign, achieved grandparental leave in the ACT public service, and improvements in the public transport system for seniors.

Mary was proud to present Macquarie resident and cultural teacher Ms Olga Molnar with Housing ACT’s Tenant of the Month Award for November.

The award recognises Ms Molnar’s role as a volunteer in teaching language, singing and dancing at the Hungarian Sunday School at Monash. The school has also performed in the National Multicultural Festival.

Ms Molnar has lived in her public housing property for over 35 years and has made it into a warm and welcoming home.

Scott and Jenny Goyne and their young son Josh, have been recognised by the Belnorth Football Club for their outstanding contributions.

Jenny was named the Club Person of the Year and also received Life Membership in recognition of her many years of volunteer service. As the Registrar for the club's 12 senior teams, Jenny co-ordinates all the administration and management for the 200 senior players that represent the club and has also previously served as the club's competition registrar.

Dragons Abreast Australia ACT and Region, have celebrated the arrival of a new 10 seater dragon boat as a welcome addition to their existing 20 seater boat.

The new boat named Gecko, took to the water after a traditional blessing by Buddhist monk, Venerable Master Quang Ba .

Following the blessing, members of Dragons Abreast, dressed in their signature pink, took to the water joined by Brumbies players Mark Chisholm and Julian Salvi, and Raiders Phil Graham and Lincoln Withers.
